Welcome, new Interns! This course in differentiation is a great journey... and I hope to show you so! As you begin to read about it, many of you will probably be making connections between differentiating in a classroom, and other processes or journeys in life. I see many connections between differentiation in a classroom to raising children. Ah, parenting..... we'll save that conversation for another time. But, let me introduce you to my kids. Left to right (starting behind my birthday cake) are Happy, 29 -- just completing her master's degree at Georgetown University; Sundy, 28, married to a great guy from Benjamin, and just starting her first job after a master's degree in marriage and family therapy in Portland, OR; Lacey 22, substituting in seminary classrooms and working on her teaching degree for junior high health and English; and Paul, 22, my returned-missionary who came home from Japan on Dec. 10 -- just in time for a Christmas with family all together! Can you imagine trying to parent each of these four persons in the very same ways? No way.... I learned the hard way! In fact, now that they are all adults I'm re-learning that fact in "hard" ways. I can't wait for us to share our experiences and insights as we learn about becoming differentiating teachers!
